Litha and the Atlantean Festival of Fire

Remembering the Ancient Solar Mysteries of Atlantis
As the Summer Solstice approaches and the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky, many spiritual traditions pause to honour the light.
Known as Litha within modern pagan traditions, the Summer Solstice has long been celebrated as a time of abundance, vitality, and illumination. It marks the longest day of the year and reminds us of the life-giving power of the Sun.
Yet within the Atlantean traditions researched by author Murry Hope, there existed another sacred observance known as the Festival of Fire.
According to Hope's writings, the Atlanteans observed four great seasonal festivals throughout their sacred year, each dedicated to one of the elemental forces. The Festival of Fire occurred when the Sun was at its most powerful and its central theme was Transformation.
When I first encountered this teaching, it immediately resonated. Not because it spoke of abundance or promised manifestation but because it reflected something far deeper. The understanding that true transformation is about remembering who you have always been.
The Sun at Its Greatest Power
Imagine standing upon the shores of Atlantis. The turquoise sea sparkles beneath the golden light of the Solstice Sun. Crystal temples rise from the landscape, reflecting rays of light in every direction. Sacred fires burn throughout the land as families, priests, priestesses, healers, and wisdom keepers gather to honour this important turning point in the sacred year.
The Atlanteans understood that the Sun was far more than a celestial body; it was a living symbol of consciousness itself. The outer Sun illuminated the world around them while the inner Sun illuminated the soul.
At the height of the solar year, they believed that the light of awareness could penetrate more deeply into the hidden places within us, revealing what was ready to be healed, transformed, and brought into greater alignment.
The Festival of Fire was not just a celebration; rather, it was an annual initiation that honoured the inner work the Atlanteans had undertaken throughout the year.
Khiet-Sin and the Ruby Flame
Murry Hope associates the Festival of Fire with the goddess Khiet-Sin, a leonine deity connected to protection, justice, and transformation. Her sacred stone was ruby and her colour orange. One of her most intriguing symbols was a flaming orb containing both orange and blue flames, representing dissolution and reunification.
Immediately I am reminded of the transformative power of sacred fire itself. Fire destroys, purifies and transforms. Yet the purpose of the fire is not destruction for its own sake. It is to remove what no longer serves so that something more aligned can emerge.
The Ruby Flame of Khiet-Sin invites us to ask:
- What am I ready to release?
- What truth am I ready to face?
- Where am I being called to lead more courageously?
- What version of myself is waiting beneath old fears, limitations, and stories?
Like the lioness, Khiet-Sin calls us into sovereignty and reminds us that transformation requires courage.
Philaeia and the Sapphire Flame
Alongside Khiet-Sin, the Festival of Fire was also associated with Philaeia, goddess of wisdom, philosophy, science, and architecture. Her sacred stone was sapphire and her colour was royal blue.
While Khiet-Sin embodies the fire of transformation, Philaeia represents the wisdom required to navigate that transformation consciously. After all, change alone does not guarantee growth. Wisdom is what allows us to integrate the lessons.
The Sapphire Flame asks different questions:
- What wisdom is seeking to emerge?
- What lesson am I finally ready to embody?
- What ancient knowledge am I remembering?
In many ways, Philaeia represents the higher mind and the deeper knowing that exists within each of us. The part of us that already remembers, that recognizes truth when it appears and that sees beyond the temporary and understands the greater purpose unfolding beneath the surface.
The Union of the Ruby and Sapphire Flames
What fascinates me most about these Atlantean teachings is the pairing of these two goddesses.
One represents courage while the other wisdom. One transforms through fire; the other guides through understanding. Together they create a powerful pathway for spiritual growth. Perhaps this is why the Summer Solstice feels so significant for many of us. The light becomes impossible to ignore. Anything hidden begins to surface. Anything out of alignment becomes more visible. Anything waiting to awaken receives an invitation. The Solstice Sun illuminates what is ready to be transformed.
A Modern Atlantean Festival of Fire Ritual
If you feel called to honour this sacred season, consider creating your own Festival of Fire ceremony.
You may wish to gather:
- A gold or orange candle
- A ruby, garnet, or carnelian crystal
- A sapphire, lapis lazuli, or sodalite crystal
- A journal
Light your candle and take several slow breaths.
Visualize yourself standing before a magnificent Atlantean crystal temple overlooking a brilliant turquoise sea. Above you, the Solstice Sun shines at its greatest strength.
To your left burns the Ruby Flame of Khiet-Sin. To your right burns the Sapphire Flame of Philaeia. Allow yourself to sit between these sacred energies.
Ask yourself: What am I ready to release? What am I ready to embody? What wisdom am I ready to remember?
Spend time journaling whatever arises. Trust the answers that emerge and the light that reveals itself.
The Greatest Transformation
The modern world often teaches us that growth requires becoming more... More successful, more accomplished, more spiritual, more healed. Yet the ancient mysteries often taught something different. The greatest transformation is not becoming someone new for it has always been about remembering who you have been from the start... that bursting, shining, infinite light as a Child of Creator! Capable of anything, powerful, wise and connected to the ALL.
As the Summer Solstice Sun reaches its highest point in the sky, may you allow its light to illuminate your path. May the Ruby Flame awaken your courage. May the Sapphire Flame illuminate your wisdom. May the Solar Light reveal the truth of who you are. And may you remember that the light you seek has always existed within you.
