For thousands of years, the ancient obelisks of Egypt have stood as extraordinary reminders of a civilization whose relationship with the cosmos, sacred architecture and the divine continues to fascinate us.

Carved from enormous single pieces of granite and raised toward the Sun, these magnificent pillars once stood before some of Ancient Egypt's most sacred temples. They were connected with solar divinity, creation and the meeting place between Heaven and Earth.

This past summer, I found myself contemplating a different question... What if the obelisks have never stopped doing what they were created to do? Perhaps humanity has simply forgotten or was made to forget their true purpose.

Ancient Pillars of the Sun

The ancient Egyptian obelisk, known as a tekhen, was far more than an impressive feat of engineering. Its distinctive form; a tall, four-sided monolithic pillar tapering toward a pyramid-shaped summit, carried profound religious symbolism.

The obelisk was deeply connected with the solar traditions of Ancient Egypt and particularly with RA, the great solar deity.

Its pointed summit, or pyramidion, also evokes the ancient Egyptian creation traditions surrounding the Benben, the primordial mound associated with Heliopolis. According to Egyptian cosmology, creation emerged from the primordial waters, and the first land became intimately associated with the appearance of light and the beginning of creation.

When we imagine sunlight striking the pyramidion of an enormous obelisk, we can begin to understand why these structures became such powerful symbols of solar divinity.

They stood rooted within the Earth while reaching toward the heavens.

Stone meeting Sun. Earth meeting Cosmos. Humanity meeting the Divine.

Carved From Living Stone

There is another detail about the obelisks that has always fascinated me: many of Egypt's great obelisks were carved from granite quarried around Aswan. And they were monoliths; one enormous, continuous piece of stone.

The unfinished obelisk still lying within the ancient quarry at Aswan offers an extraordinary glimpse into the scale of what the Egyptians attempted. Had it been completed, it would have been among the largest obelisks ever created.

From a historical perspective, these monuments demonstrate astonishing skill, organization and engineering.

From the perspective of the Mystery School teachings I work with, however, stone invites another layer of contemplation.

Granite contains quartz, and throughout my Atlantean work I have explored the relationship between crystals, consciousness, memory, energy and sacred architecture.

This leads me to wonder: Why was one continuous piece of stone so important?

Could the obelisk have represented more than the Sun symbolically? Could the ancient initiates have understood these great pillars as receivers, anchors or transmitters of sacred energy? This is where established Egyptian history meets the mysteries I continue to explore through my work with Atlantis.

Guardians of the Temples

Obelisks were also intimately connected with sacred space. Monumental pairs could stand before temple entrances, creating an extraordinary threshold through which worshippers entered.

Imagine approaching one of the great temples of Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago.

Before you ever entered its inner sanctuaries, enormous pillars of granite rose toward the heavens before you. Hieroglyphs covered their surfaces. Sunlight illuminated their summits. Beyond them waited the temple. I often wonder whether the initiation began before the initiate ever stepped inside.

Perhaps the obelisk itself invited a shift in consciousness: a reminder that crossing into sacred space meant leaving the ordinary world behind. And yet, many of these pillars no longer stand before the Egyptian temples for which they were created. They have travelled.

The Great Migration of the Obelisks

Today, ancient Egyptian obelisks can be found thousands of kilometres from Egypt. They rise within Rome, Istanbul, Paris, London and New York.

Their journeys occurred for very human historical reasons: conquest, imperial power, diplomacy, prestige and the fascination later civilizations held for Ancient Egypt. But through my own spiritual lens, their migration raises another fascinating question.

What happens energetically when a sacred object created for one landscape is carried into another?

Does it cease to hold the memory of where it came from? Does its purpose change? Or might something entirely new be created?

These questions became especially important to me when I realized that I had unknowingly been encountering these ancient pillars for more than twenty years.

A Pilgrimage I Didn't Know I Was Taking

I never intentionally set out to follow the obelisks.

My first encounter in this unfolding story was in Rome and the Vatican in 2005. I wasn't spiritually awake in the way I am today, although I already had a deep fascination with Egyptian artefacts.

Then came Paris. I visited in 2013, 2016 and 2025, repeatedly returning to a city where an ancient obelisk from Luxor now stands at Place de la Concorde.

London followed in 2016 and 2025, home to another ancient Egyptian pillar beside the Thames.

In 2017, I felt deeply called to Istanbul. For years, that journey puzzled me. I had expected some enormous insight into why I needed to go there, but none came. Only much later did I recognize the ancient Egyptian obelisk standing within the former Hippodrome as another piece of this unfolding story.

Then, in 2023, I travelled to Egypt itself. At Karnak and Luxor, I encountered the obelisks within the sacred landscape of Ancient Egypt. By then, my relationship with Atlantis, Egypt, sacred sites and the Mystery Schools had completely transformed.

Still, I hadn't connected all the dots. That wouldn't happen until New York.

When the Pattern Finally Appeared

I have travelled to New York ten times. Yet it wasn't until 2026 that I finally visited the ancient Egyptian obelisk standing in Central Park. And suddenly, something clicked.

Rome. Paris. London. Istanbul. Karnak. Luxor. New York.

Places I had visited across 21 years began to form a pattern I had never intentionally created. I began to wonder whether I had been connecting with these ancient pillars as part of a much larger planetary grid. And an even more personal realization emerged:

Perhaps my soul had been weaving a pilgrimage long before my conscious mind understood its purpose.

When the Soul Connects the Dots

This realization ultimately became about far more than obelisks. How many experiences within our lives only make sense when we look backward? Perhaps you have always been fascinated by a particular civilization. Perhaps there is a country you inexplicably long to visit. A symbol that continually appears, a subject you've studied since childhood, a sacred site that feels strangely familiar, a book that changed everything or a person who appeared at exactly the right moment.

We often expect spiritual guidance to arrive as an unmistakable message telling us exactly where we're going and why. Years pass. We follow what fascinates us, answer the places that call us and pursue subjects we cannot quite explain.

The soul leaves breadcrumbs and as one experience leads to another, the bigger picture emerges. There was a path here all along. Sometimes we simply need enough distance to recognize what our soul has already been showing us.

Are the Obelisks Still Speaking?

And so I return to the question that began this entire exploration. What if the obelisks have never stopped doing what they were created to do?

Within my Atlantean teachings, I contemplate the possibility that sacred structures can hold memory and consciousness, and that the ancient obelisks may continue to function as energetic pillars within the Earth.

Maybe their movement across continents created relationships that their original builders could never have imagined. Perhaps they have become nodes within a planetary network. And just maybe they invite us to remember something about our own relationship with Earth, the cosmos and the ancient wisdom carried within our souls.

I feel the Living Obelisks are asking us to become still enough to listen and tune into the magick and wisdom of Spirit within.
